Leaving Islay
We were on an early ferry from Port Ellen back to the mainland but as we overnighted just a few hundred yards away we were saved from an early start.
It was a lovely morning so once we'd parked up in the boarding area for the ferry we had a wander round the harbour taking some pictures across the very still waters.
Our ferry soon arrived - the MV Finlaggan, named after the castle of the Lord of the Isles that we'd visited the day before.
It's an exceptionally nice ferry - very new and modern and even has showers, which we'll bear in mind for the future. As is usual for CalMac there is a good seating area with the dog - in this case being part of one of the main lounges. Ludo was good on the ferry again although did bark a couple of times to say hello to other dogs!
As the weather was so nice we decided to head back to our wild camping spot on the Crinan Canal near Cairnbaan, as Ludo likes his walks along the canal there. For his evening walk we wandered along to the Cairnbaan Hotel for a drink. Just as well we hadn't decided to eat there as they were very busy and had to turn away quite a few people that hadn't booked. We've eaten there before and it's very good, so I can see why.
We then headed back to the motorhome, enjoying the sunset on our way. A quiet night was then had, before wandering our way back home in the morning.
Overall it was a very nice trip and Islay is a lovely, friendly island and we're already thinking about another visit.
